Keeping your PC secure is critical to protecting the
personal, business, and financial information it contains. Computer security is
important because it keeps your information protected. It's also important for
your computer's overall health; proper computer security helps prevent viruses
and malware, which allows programs to run quicker and smoother.
1. 1. Keep
your system and security up to date:- I know it’s annoying, but make
sure you check your computer for updates. I’ve seen so many cases of computers
that have never had any updates done to the operating system. Both Microsoft
and Apple roll out updates regularly to their operating systems. These can be
important security patches and you may be compromised if you don’t install
them. When an update is available for your Operating System, you will get a
notification. So you need to install them for your computer security.
2. 2 Enable
Firewall :- Firewall is the barrier between a trusted system or network
and outside connection. It filters the incoming and outgoing network traffic based
on a user defined rules. In general, the purpose of a firewall is to reduce or
eliminate the occurrence of unwanted network communications while allowing all
legitimate communication to flow freely. In most server infrastructures,
firewalls provide an essential layer of security that, combined with other
measures, prevent attackers from accessing your servers in malicious ways. In
every computer, the operating system comes up with a built-in firewall system.
In windows, this can be found by navigating to Control Panel> System and
security. If your Operating System doesn’t have firewall, a couple of free
option are available in the internet.
3. 3. Keep
your password safe:- It’s
largely general knowledge that passwords are important. Using strong, random
password is also very important. Be careful about saving password on application
on your computer because some site save your password in plain text. You need
to change your password frequently.
4. 4. Use a
VPN:- VPN means Virtual Private
network. VPN is a excellent option for your
security purpose, especially when browsing online. A VPN works by routing your
device's internet connection through your chosen VPN's private server rather
than your internet service provider (ISP) so that when your data is transmitted
to the internet, it comes from the VPN rather than your computer. While using a
VPN, all of your internet traffic is encrypted and tunneled through an
intermediary server in a separate location. This masks your IP, replacing it
with a different one, so that your ISP can no longer monitor your activity. A
VPN can help you browse securely while using open wifi network and access censored
material.
5. 5. Use an
antivirus:- Antivirus is used to
prevent, detect and remove malware. Antivirus software originally designed to
detect and remove viruses from computer, can also protect from various malware.
So keep your antivirus up to date.
