Which device is used to stored files in computers?


A storage device is a piece of computer hardware used for saving, carrying and pulling out data.  It can keep and retain information short-term or long-term.  It can be a device inside or outside a computer or server.  Other terms for storage device is storage medium or storage media. A storage device is one of the basic elements of any computer device.  It almost saves all data and applications in a computer except for hardware firmware.  It comes in different shapes and sizes depending on the needs and functionalities. Four Basic common Storage devices are :-

1..Hard disks:-  A hard disk drive (sometimes abbreviated as Hard Drive, HD, or HDD) is a volatile data storage device. It is usually installed internally in the computer, which is directly connected to the computer's motherboard's disk controller. It has one or more platters, on the inside of the air-sealed casing. Data is written on the plates using a magnetic head, which rotates rapidly as it rotates on them. The computer requires an operating system to allow the user to communicate and use. The operating system interprets keyboard and mouse movements and allows the use of software such as Internet browsers, word processors, and video games. To install a computer operating system, a hard drive (or other storage device) is required. The operating system provides a storage device with a storage device installed and stored. You also need a hard drive to install any programs or other files you want to keep on your computer. When downloading files to your computer, they are permanently stored on your hard drive or other storage medium until they are moved or uninstalled


2.Optical disk:- An optical disc is an electronic data storage medium that can be written to and read from using a low-powered laser beam. Originally developed in the late 1960s, the first optical disc, created by James T. Russell, stored data as micron-wide dots of light and dark. An optical disk drive uses a laser to read and write data. An optical drive that can work with multiple types of discs will therefore contain multiple lasers. The mechanism to read and write data consists of a laser, a lens to guide the laser beam, and photo diodes to detect the light reflection from the disc.



3. RAM (Random Access Memory):-  RAM can change in a computer. Only a few dozen megabytes of RAM were installed in older computers. When personal computers became popular in the 1990's and 1990's, computers had 32 megabytes of memory. Motherboards and software now require at least one gigabyte to work. The RAM contains information while the computer is running. After the machine shuts down, the information in the RAM is lost.



4 .Floppy disk:- A floppy disk is a magnetic storage medium for computer systems. The floppy disk is composed of a thin, flexible magnetic disk sealed in a square plastic carrier. When hard drives were still very expensive, floppy disks were also used to store the operating system of a computer. The first 8-inch floppy disk had a storage capacity of about 80 kilobytes. By 1986, IBM introduced the 3-1/2 inch floppy disk with 1.44 megabytes of storage space. This may seem like very little now, but at the time it was hard to imagine needing more space than that. It is easily damaged when exposed to heat and dust. Files are easily corrupted. Data or files on a floppy disk are easily corrupted as virus spreads faster on it than other storage devices. Slow data transfer rate.
